Genesis Networks selects Telstra International for Video-over-IP TV transmissionsTuesday, January 08, 2008
Genesis Networks has gone live with an advanced data network solution from Telstra Europe Ltd, a division of Telstra International, which delivers video transmission services from the Asia Pacific to the international broadcast market.
Major broadcasters, TV channels and production companies such as the BBC, Bloomberg, Fox, Setanta, National Geographic and Sky use Genesis Networks’ global Video-over-IP services for live news and sports broadcasts and transmission feeds.
The new Telstra Europe network significantly extends Genesis Networks’ reach in the Asia Pacific market, enabling it to meet rapidly growing service demand and follows a successful pilot project with Telstra handling TV transmission of the Australian Open tennis.
“Telstra is a Tier 1 global service provider and operates one of the most advanced networks in the Asia Pacific, making the company our natural partner of choice,” said Dan Brenneman, Director of Engineering at Genesis Networks. “Working with the European arm of Telstra gives us an ideal bridge between our US and Asia Pacific operations. Telstra Europe has in-depth experience of working with customers in the media and broadcast sector and has a proven track record in delivering complex, business-critical international network solutions.”
Telstra is providing network access and high-availability co-location facilities for Genesis Networks’ video transmission equipment in Points-of-Presence (POPs) in Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Tokyo and Singapore. International connectivity is being delivered via 155mbps (OC3) private lines to guarantee end-to-end Quality of Service covering the co-location sites.
“Transmitting live broadcasts using Video-over-IP real-time application is technically challenging, especially when done on a global scale” said Simon Vye, CEO at Telstra Europe. “Therefore, to be selected by Genesis Networks is a great testament of our ability to deliver high quality, resilient international network solutions against the most complex and demanding customer requirements where downtime is not an option.”
